Celebrity watch… watch

Tonight while watching Community (BTW, great show.) I couldn’t help but notice that Jeff (Joel McHale) was wearing a Panerai watch. I’m not quite at the Tommy Ton level of encyclopedic knowledge of brands, but I try. I spotted Joel’s Panerai from a quick glance at the watch buckle. Consider me brilliant, or clever, but it’s not too hard to decipher Panerai’s with the angular pre-v buckle. I think it’s a PAM.

Here’s another shot (love that facial expression) of the watch. If you have time, watch the video clip of the Late Show that I took it from. Joel and Craig briefly talk about skinny ties.

Anyone have any idea what the exact model is?

Even if you’re a casual reader, you’ll realize that I’m slowly turning into an old man. I try to keep this blog fresh and modern, but sometimes I have to let the old man inside of me show.

So if you don’t mind, I’ll nerd out on you for a second. I’ve rounded up a few screwdriver sets that I’m sure you’ll want to get after you see them. These sets are specifically made for all of your watch repairing needs. They have rotating heads that allow you to properly remove the barely noticeable screws inside that watch movement of yours. So tell your girlfriend or wife that she’s not allowed to use them. As a matter of fact, you better just hide them. You should hide the receipt too because these things aren’t cheap. I know you’re about to order a set so I thought I’d also mention that you’d better order a sharpener for those fancy drivers. Here’s one from Bergeon that should do the trick. Don’t forget to buy the stone too.

Because I’m 26 and not 62 yet, I decided on the more affordable 9-piece French made A*F set.

  1. You can buy the A*F Switzerland 9-piece set at TZ Tool Shop.
  2. You can buy the Horotec 9-piece set at Esslinger.
  3. You can buy the Bergeon 9-piece set at National Jeweler Supplies.

I love wearing vintage watches. They require more attention, but I love the charm that they have to offer. What I’m wearing now is an automatic Rado Purple Horse. And unlike a quartz watch, it sometimes needs a little kick start to get going. Maybe you’re familiar with the process, or maybe you’re not. Here’s a video that shows you how to get an automatic watch restarted.

I’ve been looking for canvas straps for a while now. Finding a casual band made of natural fibers is harder than you’d think. As you’ll notice, these are green and probably not perfect for every casual occasion, but it’s certainly wearable and will most likely age beautifully.

I ran across these today during some casual forum reading. You can buy them at watchdoc.tripod.com (Wuh, tripod is still around?) and I’d like to thank senior member mike184 from the Rado forums for the assist.

I know, you thought I’d given up on posting original content. Ha! Never!! I’ve just been tending to a slew of eBay alerts.
I’ve recently become obsessed with the Swiss watch manufacturer Rado. Maybe it’s just one of my little fads, but whatever, these watches have so much character. I like all of them. There’s an online archive that shows many of the models—beware it’s big. Just to name a few models that I’ve been tracking, there’s the Manhattan, Silver Star, Purple Horse and Green Horse. And I want them all. I didn’t even name the really obscure/rare models like the Space Flight.
Another little tidbit and one that is related to my previous post about removing watch scratches, the Rado Diastar was the world’s first scratch-proof watch. (via Wikipedia)
