A Beater Option - The Timex T2M564

(The Timex T2M564 is the third one from the left.)

If you were to ask me, I’d tell you to spend as much dough as you can on a nice watch. I’m also all about spending as little as possible on beater watches. You may have seen my last beater, but it’s time is up.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a party animal. Take a look at the image above and tell me that watch didn’t take a beating. I have a signature bboy move that I pull out on the dance floor and the RAM just couldn’t take it. I’ve moved on though and I’ve found a new beauty to beat (I know, that just sounds wrong.). If you read GQ, you may already be familiar with the Timex T2M564. It graced the pages of the April 2010 issue and shows up under the section titled Golden Opportunities on page 127. It also popped up in the 2010 GQ Style Manual.

In all of the GQ shots, the watch has a gold band. I haven’t been able to find this version, so if you know where to find it, let me know. I purchased the version that contains the leather band and it arrived today. It’s definitely not a bad looking watch for under $45. Mine came fitted with a 22mm brown leather band that I plan to swap out soon with a regimental striped one. It has a unidirectional brass bezel and a small date calendar at 3 o’clock. I don’t plan on taking this watch diving, but I might take it snorkeling.

Black on Black Oversized Timex Easy Reader

I ran across another blacked out Easy Reader today and I snatched it up for you. I’ve talked about this watch before on the blog, and I’m talking about it again because it’s one of my favorites from Timex. It’s no wonder GQ added it to the August 2010 issue along side of the Panerai. This watch has a 42mm face and can make a statement. Lug to lug it holds a 20mm band and the Timex team did you a solid by fixing it up with genuine black leather one. Happy bidding.

As a followup to this post, I’d like to let you know that the new oversized Timex Camper is available at Nordstroms now.

*Sorry for the crappy iPhone photos.

I know I’ve been away from the blog for a while, but I’ve been cruisin’ in my new blacked out Lambo and chasing the latest blacked out watches on the market. While I’m refueling that beast of a ride (It takes like seventy to fill it up.), I’ll tell you about my findings.

I can’t take all the cred. GQ (August 2010) hooked me up on what I later found out was a Timex Easy Reader. There wasn’t a model number listed in the article, so I had to speed over to the Timex Facebook page and post a couple questions. And to make a long story short, I eventually parked at Nordstroms in downtown Portland, OR.

I’m not hatin’ on the homies that have gotten high on White-Out™ and whited out their rides, and wrists, but I’m a big fan of all black. Mostly because I have too much white on my butt already. And the price point ($60) on the Timex (I got no money after that car payment. You know what I mean?) also made this watch stand out. The closer I got to the watch the more I liked it. The size is nice and the styling is simple. Check and check. Oh and BTW, I nabbed/stole the entire selection that Nordstroms had, so now you’ll have to buy ‘em directly from ya’ boy. Those are the perks of having a car with 125 on the dash. It’s just another day in life of the god damn boss.

Is anyone else anxious for the launch of this watch? It’s supposed to launch in July, I do believe.

If you’re thinking about getting this watch from J.Crew you might want to take a look at ebay first. I’m definitely a man that’ll go for a vintage piece before a reproduction. More often than not… they just don’t make ‘em like they used too.

[UPDATE: Here’s another one on ebay.]
