While browsing the Feb. issue of Monocle over a cup of coffee this morning, I ran across a small snippet about the brand Finamore. I decided to visit their website and I wasn’t surprised when I found quite a few shirts that I’d like to add to my closet. I especially like the spread collar striped Gekkos. Speaking of Gekkos, I know all of you are sad to see the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps release date get pushed to September 24, 2010. 

Finamore is nothing new—it’s the 2nd oldest shirt manufacturer in Naples. (via Ian Daniels of Shop the Finest) I haven’t had the pleasure of assessing the tactile qualities of the Finamore cloth, but I can imagine that a cotton dress shirt woven on silk machines would delight the senses. I know it’s Friday, and you’re probably thinking about happy hour already. Hell, maybe you’re sipping on a cocktail and reading this on your iPhone as I type it. Whatever your situation, don’t let that brain relax too much. Take a look at these extremely technical shirt diagrams from Alexander West.

They’re allowing you to choose the styling (the fabrics) you want, without having to place a custom order. This is no doubt better for them but it also is nice if you want to make sure that you get a shirt with a certain pattern. They only make limited runs (30-60 usually). I have a solid white shirt from them and I wear it all of the time. And to add to my collection, I’m thinking about ordering one of their spring shirts—I like the Torre Vado (100% Linen) and Rue de Vaugirard fabrics. I’m currently going back and forth with them to try to get them to make my shirt with a rounded collar (a.k.a. penny collar) similar to the one in the image below. Does anyone else have any favorite patterns from the Spring/Summer collection or style ideas? Note: They’re shutting off pre-orders February 28th.
