I really like this look and so I decided to break it down. I consider Olch a pro, and I consider myself still learning. And so that makes this my… assignment? Whatever it is, maybe you’ll appreciate it.

Meet Cathal McAteer, everyone. He started the fun clothing brand Folk. And you might think he’s relaxing in this photo—he’s not. He’s most likely dreaming about his next collab, SS10 or quite possibly his new shoe line. Whatever he’s dreaming about, he’s doing it with style. The burgundy trousers and bright red shirt toned down with what looks to be light-washed denim is not a bad combo. Noted, sir.
Does anyone want to guess what kind of blue shoes those are lying in front?

Hi Ike Behar. I bought a green and brown plaid ‘trim fit’ shirt that has your name on it yesterday. The slim (or trim) fit was perfect and the sleeve length was just right (I have long arms.). The quality was also apparent, noticeably when glancing at the pattern that matches on the button placket (How’d you do that?). Also, in case you care, the shirt goes great with my new Gentleman Travelers that arrived the other day. Since I didn’t really know who the hell you were or why your name rung a bell and nothing else, I decided to read the history section on your website and learned:
At the age of 20, Ike, with fifty dollars in his wallet, left Havana, Cuba for New York City to pursuit the American Dream. He took his first job on a trial basis, offering a custom shirt-maker his services for free in order to prove his skills. By the end of the week, the shirt-maker was so impressed that he paid him his wages and offered him a permanent position. Eventually, Ike bought the company and, over the next decade continued to perfect his craft with his patented shirt-making innovations.
I know that by now you’re probably daydreaming about Marcus Halberstam’s girlfriend, Cecelia Wagner, the mashed turnips at Union Square Café, skiing down Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, the new Huey Lewis and the News compact disc, and if you’re anything like Mr. Bateman—which you’re not—dress shirts by Ike Behar. And if you didn’t get the reference, these are the positive things on Mr. Bateman’s list in the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. And to showcase Ike’s recognition even more, watch him strut around in this video, where he’s straightening and pinning the clothing for Miami Heat team members while they’re getting ready for their 2008-09 player introductions. So click through on Ike’s photo above and visit the Ike Behar site. But before you do that there’s one more thing I’ve rounded up from a bit of googling. The Behar team has a new collection named Havana32 that is an homage to 1930s Cuba, which was Ike’s father’s (who was also a tailor) era. via onthefly And I’ve read that there’s going to be a Guayabera-like white linen shirt in the collection, so keep your eyes open for it. It might come in handy this summer (I know you want one.). I have one that’s from Old Navy that Kate bought for me a couple of summers ago. I wear it when I’m feeling extra spunky and when I feel the urge to go and buy some really expensive magazine from Rich’s Cigar Shop that will probably end up costing more than the shirt cost. Don’t get me wrong though, the shirt is great and I know it makes me fit in with el Jefe or the hombre español macho que me estoy imaginando at Rich’s. Also, if you’re feeling the Christmas spirit, you can buy me a couple more Ike Behar shirts here.

Bryan Ferry is a British singer, musician, and songwriter and has placed ten singles on the top ten charts in the UK (via Wiki). And his rakish style has hoisted him into a spot on GQ’s The 50 Most Stylish Men of the Past 50 Years. He represents his position with a wardrobe that blossoms with bespoke Richard Anderson suits, Dunhill shirts, Berluti shoes, and pindot ties. And if you’re not already jealous enough, GQ has rounded up the complete list of Mr. Ferry’s essentials.

If you’re not familiar, which you should be, this is Waris from House of Waris. He’s a jewelry maker and actor. You may remember him from The Darjeeling Limited. If not, the link goes to a video snippet of him killing his role. He also just recently teamed up with Alexander Olch to create a line of AWESOME morse code cufflinks that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing in person at Winn Perry.
Jean Touitou (photo credit: honeyee)
I’m not too familiar with Jean Touitou other than knowing that he is the founder of the brand A.P.C . But I thought it’d be fun to round up a picture of him and try to break down his style.
You can read an interview with Jean Touitou to get a better idea about how unique this man really is over at Hypebeast.
Scott Sternberg (photo via refinery29)
If you’re not familar, Scott Sternberg is the man behind the brand Band of Outsiders. And based on the tongue-flipping action that was displayed in Sperry collab, I’d say he likes to do things a bit differently. I can imagine him just thinking about how neat it’d be to flip the tongue around and then just deciding, fuck it — I’m doin’ it. This attitude is apparent in what he’s sporting above too. First off, the man’s sporting duck boots. Those haven’t been in style since I was in the 4th grade. And with flair, he’s wearing them like Kanye wears the cheese-tims — tongues waggin’. He balances the boots off with a pair of grey slim cut pants and a nice comfy looking pea coat.
Simon Doonan (photo via Timothy Greenfield-Sanders)
I’m not sure where I plan to go with these clothing guides other than that I just plan to create them for people and or characters whose style I fancy. I hope you’d agree that Simon Doonan has some serious style. If you’re not familiar with him, he’s the creative director behind Barney’s and his memoirs have been adapted to a BBC television show titled Beautiful People.
In the photo above he’s sporting what looks to be the distinctively textured grenadine tie. The texture of the grenadine weave is known to add visual interest and the solid wine color of the tie fits nicely into what looks to be a floral Paul Smith button down. And to finish off the outfit, Simon has balanced it with a black trench and a monogramed Goyard tote. Respect that kiddies.
