This weekend was a busy one. The weather was perfect and so K and I decided to get our bikes out—the first time in a while. And as you can see in the images above, we decided to do a few upgrades.

Because K was unhappy with the drop handlebars we replaced them with upright bars and added a basket. This basket is going to come in handy when hauling groceries and flowers from the farmer’s market that should be ramping up soon. We just recently found out that there’s going to be a new location that’s closer for us too, I can’t wait.

The handlebar conversion process was pretty straight forward. I just had remove the brake levers, loosen a screw on the headset, and then maneuver the bars out. One thing that did pop up and it’s something that I didn’t initially take into consideration was the brake cables. I ended up having to buy new cables and casings to replace the old ones because the cable length from the levers on the old handlebars didn’t match the new length. Adding the basket was also pretty easy. I just had to remove the front wheel, attach the stabilizer bars to the front axle, and attach a few bolts around the handlebars. It was a fun project and took about an hour and a half. And best of all, K loves the new setup.

Today K and I had to travel out to the deep SE, where there’s a Wal-Mart. It’s not everyday in Portland you get to visit a Wal-mart. And if you’re wondering, we were out there because we needed to pick up a dishwasher. We purchased it at a great place called Standard Appliance that has the fanciest appliances I’ve ever seen.
Anyway, K brought up, based on the memories she had of a Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory episode, that Rob struck a deal with Wal-mart and they supposedly sold Sidehacks there. If I’m blowing your mind, sidehacks are twenty inch bikes that contain a side cart (what you’re seeing in the photo above). Sadly, the Wal-mart we visited didn’t have any sidehacks. We were pretty disappointed because we were planning on pimpin’ one around the neighborhood. I want one.
